The Sacred Temple Island of Philae

Center of the worship of Isis

1st Nome of Upper Egypt

"Every part of Egypt is interesting and curious,
but the only place to which the epithet beautiful can be
correctly applied is the island of Philae... "

Robert Curzon, from 'Visits to the Monasteries of the Levant', 1834

A collection of pages about P'aaleq, the 'Remote Place' in ancient Egyptian, the Island of Philae, near the First Cataract in Upper Egypt, and a portrait of its widely renown and loved goddess Isis.

In the ancient days this was the center of the worship of Isis, and the last outpost of the nearly 4000 year old ancient Egyptian religion.
