The Island of Philae

Temple of Isis

Shrine of Isis in Upper Egypt

"Every part of Egypt is interesting and curious,
but the only place to which the epithet beautiful can be
correctly applied is the island of Philae... "

Robert Curzon, from 'Visits to the Monasteries of the Levant', 1834

A collection of pages about P'aaleq, the 'Remote Place' in ancient Egyptian, the Island of Philae, near the First Cataract in Upper Egypt, and a portrait of its most renown and highly loved goddess Aset (Gr: Isis).

In the ancient days it was the center of the worship of Aset, and the last outpost of the nearly 4000 year old ancient Egyptian religion.
