Abedjou

(Abydos/This)

Sacred Place for Millennia

Abydos, or Abedjw as the ancient Egyptian name was, is the most important and long standing of religious sites in all of ancient Egypt. The earliest finds are from the predynastic era, and it remained the main center for pilgrimage and the cult of Wesir until the Christian days.

These pages cover a brief historic outline as well as an account of the mytho-religious aspects of the so called Passion Plays annually celebrated here.

Abedjou Main  Abedjou History  Passion Plays
Temple of Seti I  Hypostyles & King List  Temple of Ramesses II
