Trip to Egypt, April 2005

The Westbank 1: Local Market, Valley of the Kings

Before sunrise we cross the river to the Westbank.

The local market is already well under way.
Fresh bread is sold on the street

Women carrying their goods on their heads.
Note the shisha (water) pipes in the lower right hand corner.

The first thing you see when coming to the Valley of the Kings is the mountain top called
'Meretseger', She of the Silence, by the ancients.
She was the local cobra goddess of this valley and seems to be still at guard.

By the road this sign wants to remind you what we´re here for...

The entrance to the tomb of Ramesses VI
Further than this no cameras are allowed.

No excavation this but some check is being kept at the area.

Impressive surroundings on all sides.
