Trip to Egypt, April 2005

Approaching Philae

I had a hard time chosing which photos to put up so these pages are imageheavy and will take a while to load. But have patience, I´m pretty sure you´ll think it´s worhtwhile.

On the way out through Aswan there' s the sign.
I whish I had taken more photographs for as soon as you leave the town,
the landscape is nothing but bare, craggy rocks of red granite.

El Shellal, where the motorboats take you out to Philae Island.

The boat turns around a bend and there - the first sight of Philae.

Coming closer...

... and closer...

...landing soon...

Looking around while preparing to go ashore, you see the Island of Bigeh just opposite the landing. The old steel constructions from the relocalization in the 1970´s of the temples, still stand up out of the water. In the background is the eastern riverbank.
