Trip to Egypt, April 2005

Cruising the Nile 2: Life along the Banks

Traffic is fairly sparse along the river.
Most of the ships are Nilecruisers transporting tourists. But two feluccas out fishing, passed us by. Having seen what can come floating in the water, I pass on the Nile fish.

A farm... I think... Notice the man in his galabaya.
Behind him is a grove of fruit trees.

Life by the river. Waterbuffalos grazing, laundry drying,
Some leaves have been collected and placed on the boat.

Primitive methods still prevail. The men are carrying and loading stones without any technical help.
In many areas the infrastructure is underdeveloped making it difficult to bring machines to sites.

Doneky seeking shelter from the midday sun...

While at the village school on the opposite shore, the children play during lunchbreak,
seemingly unaffected by the heat.
